Home is where the Hummus is!

WE LOVE HUMMUS!!!!!

With the clocks going forward and the weather treating us to a couple of days of sunshine last week, we got a little over excited about the prospect of picnics and our minds quickly turned to HUMMUS!!!! (it doesn’t take much)

It’s a fab early food for the babies or a staple dip for the older ones. What with the chickpeas (full of protein) and the garlic (full of vitamins) this is a brilliant food for your little ones….if they can get to it before you eat it all during the taste tests.

I’d never made hummus before but boy oh boy am I going to do it again. It was TOO easy!!! You can play around with the proportions of everything and add in all sorts like olives, pesto and roasted red peppers to make your own personalised hummus.

The basic hummus recipe is

1 x 400g tin of chickpeas
1 tsp cumin
1 clove of garlic
2 tbl olive oil
2 tsp tahini / smooth peanut butter (take care if there is a family history of nut allergies)
2 tbl lemon juice
4 tbl water

You chuck it all in the whizzer for 5 minutes or until it is the consistency you like and THAT’S IT!!!!!

See how quick it was in the video.

Then you can play around with the proportions until it’s how you like it or chuck in some hidden veggies for the babies and toddlers. We did one with half a roasted red pepper and one with an avocado and they were delish!

“Hummus ask you a question – what is your favourite flavour?”

We’d love to know which flavour your little one enjoys best or if you have any weird and wonderful taste sensation flavours for us to try.

Enjoy this 5 minute recipe with pitta bread fingers and veg sticks (or just dip your finger straight in there!)
