Gingerbread – Confidence level 4

The easiest recipe for gingerbread, they also double up as edible, child friendly Christmas decorations and excellent presents!

♡ Into one bowl sieve 350g plain flour
♡ 1 tsp of bicarbonate of soda
♡ 1 tbs ground ginger
♡ 1 tsp of cinnamon
♡ (Optional) 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
♡ (Optional) 1/4 tsp ground cloves
♡ Add 100g soft brown sugar
♡ Add 100g cold, unsalted, cubed butter
♡ 1 egg
♡ 1 tsp vanilla paste
♡ 2 tbs honey

♡ Mix into a dough
♡ Roll out onto baking paper and pop it in the freezer for 5 minutes while you make the icing

♡ 2 tbs of icing sugar with a few drops of water until you have a thick, yet runny paste. Add food coloring if you wish.

♡ Once the dough is chilled roll to 0.5cm thickness and use cookie cutters / a pizza cutter to create your desired shapes.

♡ Cook at 180°C until brown, usually 8-10 minutes.                                                                 

♡ Leave to cool on a cooling rack then decorate to your hearts content.
